A method for the manufacture of Lovastatin of formula (I) is disclosed. The method comprises of: A. lactonisation of Mevinolinic acid (II) and isolation of impure Lovastatin (I), B. purification of impure Lovastatin (I), C. optionally, repurification of pure Lovastatin (I) from a mixture of alumina and a water miscible solvent.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de la lovastatine de formule (I). Le procédé consiste: A. à lactoniser de l'acide mévinolinique (II) et à isoler la lovastatine impure (I), B. à purifier la lovastatine impure (I) et C. éventuellement à repurifier la lovastatine pure (I) d'un mélange d'alumine et d'un solvant miscible dans l'eau.
