A method of manufacturing metallic, especially aluminum flake pigments comprises comminuting metallic flake particles in an inert solvent such as mineral spirit and in-line screening of the slurry thus formed in at least two in- line cylindrical rotary screens (1, 20, 21, 22) with different mesh size. The screening system is fully enclosed to avoid solvent emissions. The finished product has consistent flake particle size distribution with brighter metallic finishes than conventionally produced products. [Fig. 2]
