2108660 9219363 PCTABS00017 The invention relates to a process for removing hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and/or carbon disulphide (CS2) from exhaust gases. These exhaust gases are brought into contact with water and bromine so that H2SO4 and HBr in aqueous solution and possibly CO2 are formed. Bromine is regenerated from the hydrobromic acid in an electrolysis cell. In addition, marketable hydrogen is produced.
