A method and apparatus is set forth for accelerating the total acoustic echo cancellation convergence time in a microphone array full-duplex conferencing system with beamformer. The invention is based on sequentially switching the beamformer to untrained sectors during periods of far-end speech activity and performing real-time cancellation of far-end echo signals from the near-end signals to consecutively adapt and store filter coefficients for the echo canceller corresponding to each sector.

Méthode et appareil pour diminuer le temps de convergence dans l'élimination totale de l'écho acoustique dans un système de conférence duplex intégral avec microphones et un dispositif de formation de faisceaux. L'invention fonctionne par la commutation séquentielle du dispositif de formation de faisceaux vers des secteurs non exercés pendant des périodes de parole à une extrémité éloignée et d'annuler en temps réel les signaux d'écho de l'extrémité éloignée des signaux provenant de l'extrémité rapprochée pour ensuite adapter et enregistrer des coefficients de filtrage afin que l'élimination de l'écho se fasse en fonction de chaque secteur.
