An internal combustion engine provided with a variable compression ratio mechanism (A) able to change a mechanical compression ratio (A) and an actual compression action start timing changing mechanism (B) able to change a start timing of an actual compression action. An amount of intake air in accordance with the required load is fed into a combustion chamber (5) by controlling the closing timing of the intake valve (7), while a pressure in the combustion chamber (5) at the end of a compression stroke is maintained substantially constant regardless of the engine load by controlling the mechanical compression ratio.
L'invention concerne un moteur à combustion interne pourvu d'un mécanisme à taux de compression variable (A) capable de modifier un taux de compression mécanique (A) et d'un mécanisme de changement du moment de départ de l'action de compression actuelle (B). Une quantité d'air d'admission selon la charge requise est acheminée dans une chambre de combustion (5) par régulation du moment de fermeture de la soupape d'admission (7), tandis qu'une pression dans la chambre de combustion (5) à l'extrémité d'une course de compression est maintenue sensiblement constante, en dépit de la charge du moteur par commande du taux de compression mécanique.
