In accordance with the present invention, a method for corneal laser surgery includes the step of first prescribing the size, shape and location of a lentoid of stromal tissue to be removed in order to correct the vision of a patient. Next, a contoured corneal flap having an interior surface and peripheral edge is created wherein the interior surface of the flap is shaped to conform to the prescribed anterior surface of the lentoid. To create the flap, the focal point of a pulsed laser beam is moved within the intrastromal tissue to photoalter a layer of tissue in the shape of the interior surface and the peripheral edge of the flap. Once created, the flap can be lifted to expose a bed of intrastromal tissue. Then, an excimer laser can be used to photoalter the bed of intrastromal tissue in a predetermined manner, thus creating a void in the shape of the prescribed lentoid. Finally, the flap can be repositioned over the lentoid shaped void and allowed to heal. The result is a reshaped cornea that effectively corrects a patient's vision impairment.
La présente invention porte sur une intervention au laser modifiant la cornée. Cette intervention comprend une première étape qui est celle de prescrire la taille, la forme et l'endroit où exciser un stroma de forme lenticulaire afin de corriger la vue d'un patient. Par la suite, un lambeau de cornée profilé présentant une surface interne et une bordure est créé. La surface interne du lambeau est modelée pour se conformer à la surface antérieure prescrite de la forme lenticulaire. Pour créer le lambeau, le point focal d'un faisceau laser pulsé et déplacé à l'intérieur du tissu intrastromal afin modeler une couche de tissu afin d'obtenir un lambeau ayant une certaine surface interne et une certaine bordure. Une fois créé, on peut soulever le lambeau pour exposer le lit de tissu intrastromal. Puis, on peut se servir d'un laser excimer pour photomodifier le lit de tissu intrastromal de manière prédéterminée, ce qui crée un vide dans la forme lenticulaire prescrite. Enfin, le lambeau peut être installé de nouveau sur le vide formé par la forme lenticulaire, et on peut laisser le tout guérir. Il en résulte une cornée remodelée qui corrige efficacement le défaut visuel du patient.
