A process for alkylating an aromatic compound comprising reacting at least one aromatic compound with a mixture of olefins having from about 8 to about 100 carbon atoms, in the presence of a strong acid catalyst wherein the resulting product comprises at least about 60 weight percent of a 1, 2, 4 tri-alkylsubstituted aromatic compound.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'alkylation d'un composé aromatique, qui comporte la mise en réaction d'au moins un composé aromatique avec un mélange d'oléfines ayant d'environ 8 à environ 100 atomes de carbone, en présence d'un catalyseur acide fort, le produit obtenu comportant au moins environ 60 pour cent en poids d'un composé aromatique 1,2,4-trialkylsubstitué.
