A thin walled article, for example a biodegradable tray is formed by a method using a mixture comprised substantially of wheat flour. The mixture is subjected to pressure within a heated mold for cooking the mixture under pressure to produce the article. Water is added to the mixture having a combined weight which is less than 23% of the total weight of the mixture. The mixture thus has the consistency of a moistened powder before being placed in the mold. The mixture is thus readily mixed and handled while permitting various additives to also be readily added to the mixture. These additives may include a powdered dye, a pre- gelatinised starch, a binding agent (for example guar gum), a humectant (for example D-Sorbitol), a cellulose fibre (for example a natural dietary fibre) or a preservative (for example Sodium Benzoate).
