A method of manufacturing flexible magnetic tape having a permanently structured magnetic characteristic which varies from place to place in two different directions in the plane of the tape, includes: a) coating a flexible substrate with a slurry comprising anisotropic magnetic particles; b) moving the substrate and slurry coating relative to a first magnetic field having a field strength which varies with time in a first direction, thereby selectively orienting the said particles in areas spaced apart in a first direction; c) subsequently moving the substrate and slurry coating relative to a second magnetic field having a field strength which varies with time in a second direction making an oblique angle with the first direction, such that the said magnetic particles are selectively oriented in spaced areas in both said first and said further directions, and d) solidifying the slurry to fix the said particles in place.
Ce procédé de fabrication d'une bande magnétique souple possédant une caractéristique magnétique, structurée de façon permanente et variant de place en place dans deux directions différentes dans le plan de la bande, comprend les étapes suivantes consistant: a) à revêtir un substrat souple à l'aide d'une pâte comprenant des particules magnétiques anisotropes, b) à déplacer le substrat et son revêtement par rapport à un premier champ magnétique possédant une intensité de champ variant dans le temps, dans une première direction, orientant ainsi de façon sélective les particules, dans une première direction et dans des zones espacées les unes des autres, c) à déplacer ultérieurement le substrat et son revêtement par rapport à un second champ magnétique possédant une intensité de champ variant dans le temps, dans une seconde direction formant un angle oblique avec la première direction, de façon que les particules magnétiques soient orientées de manière sélective dans des zones espacées les unes des autres, à la fois dans la première direction et dans d'autres directions, et d) à solidifier la pâte de manière à fixer les particules et les maintenir en place.
