The method includes reducing electrical power generated by the plant (10) to house load, and changing the plant (10) from a power operation mode, in which the Brayton cycle is self-sustaining, to a standby mode, in which the Brayton cycle is not self-sustaining and mass flow of working fluid around the power generation circuit (12) is achieved by an auxiliary blower system (38) and in which the plant (10) remains synchronised with the grid.
