The invention relates to an improved method of presulfurizing a sulfidable metal or metal oxide-containing catalyst which sulfur stripping upon start-up of a reactor and improves catalyst activity. The method comprises contacting porous particles of the sulfidable catalyst with elemental sulfur at a temperature such that said elemental sulfur is incorporated in the pores of said catalyst by sublimation and/or melting and at the same time or subsequently heating the catalyst particles in the presence of a liquid olefinic hydrocarbon at a temperature greater than 150 °C.

L'invention porte sur une méthode améliorée pour présulfurer un catalyseur renfermant un métal ou un oxyde métallique, de façon à parer à l'élimination du soufre lors du démarrage du réacteur et à renforcer l'action du catalyseur. La méthode consiste à mettre en contact des particules poreuses du catalyseur sulfurable avec du soufre élémentaire à une température à laquelle ce soufre est incorporé dans les pores du catalyseur par sublimation et (ou) fusion, et à chauffer simultanément ou ultérieurement les particules de catalyseur en présence d'un composé oléfinique liquide à une température supérieure à 150 degrés C.
