A method of processing positioning data to create map data, the map data comprising a plurality of navigable segments representing segments of a navigable route in the area covered by the map w ith each segment being arranged to have speed data associated therewith, the method comprising: i. processing the speed data to categorise that speed data into a plurality of predetermined time periods for the navigable segment with which the speed data is associated; and ii. averaging the speed data within each predetermined time period in order to generate a measured speed profile for that navigable segment.

L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement des données de localisation pour créer des données de carte, les données de carte comportant une pluralité de segments navigables représentant les segments d'un itinéraire navigable dans la zone couverte par la carte, chaque segment pouvant être associé à des données de vitesse. Le procédé de l'invention comprend les étapes suivantes: (i) traitement des données de vitesse pour les catégoriser en une pluralité d'intervalles temporels prédéterminés pour le segment navigable, auquel les données de vitesse sont associées; et (ii) calcul de la moyenne des données de vitesse pour chaque intervalle temporel prédéterminé, ceci permettant la production d'un profil de vitesse mesuré pour chaque segment navigable.
