Method and housing (2) for reducing particulate build-up on a surface of a device (5) contained in a recess (4) defined by the housing (2) when attached to a conduit, the method includes introducing gas into the recess (4) at a high volume and low velocity so that the gas flows in a laminar manner across the surface of the device (5). The volume lies in a range from 80 to 300 litres/minute and the velocity lies in a range from 0.2 to 3.6 metres/second. The method and housing (2) are particularly useful for preventing the build up of coal dust on the face of an ultrasonic transducer (5) used to measure the mass flow rate of coal being pneumatically transferred in the conduit.

Procédé et boîtier (2) pour réduire la formation d'un dépôt particulaire sur la surface d'un dispositif (5) contenu dans un évidement (4) défini par un boîtier (2) lorsqu'il est rattaché à un conduit, le procédé consiste à introduire un grand volume de gaz à très petite vitesse dans l'évidement (4) afin que le gaz circule de façon laminaire sur la surface du dispositif (5). Le volume de gaz varie entre 80 et 300 litres/minute et la vitesse varie entre 0,2 et 3,6 mètres/seconde. Le procédé et le boîtier(2) sont particulièrement pratiques pour prévenir la formation d'un dépôt de charbon sur la surface d'un transducteur ultrasonore (5) utilisé pour mesurer le débit massique de charbon transporté dans le conduit par procédé pneumatique.
