A method of producing male or female sterile plants comprising providing means for inactivating a herbicide and means for reactivating the thus inactivated herbicide, wherein the herbicide inactivating means is provided within vegetative tissues and the reactivating means is provided in either the male or female reproductive structures of the plant, so that the vegetative, but not reproductive, structures are protected from the phytotoxic activity of the herbicide when applied to the plant.
L'invention concerne un procédé de production de plantes stériles mâles ou femelles, qui consiste à prévoir des moyens d'inactivation d'un herbicide et des moyens de réactivation de l'herbicide ainsi inactivé. Les moyens d'inactivation de l'herbicide sont prévus dans les tissus végétatifs, et les moyens de réactivation dans les structures reproductrices mâles ou femelles de la plante, afin de protéger les structures végétatives, mais pas les structures reproductrices, contre l'activité phytotoxique de l'herbicide lorsque celui-ci est appliqué sur la plante.
