The invention relates to a method of storing outdoors or in buildings wood material such as logs, sawn timber and wood chips by means of man-made snow or ice in which method the pile of wood material being stored (5, 5') is packed with snow (7) using a snow-gun or covered with on site made ice layer and is then lastly covered with an insulating layer (8). The invention also related to a purpose-constructed snow-gun (2, 2').
