A method of transmitting data via an optical WDM transmission system is proposed wherein data channels are multiplexed for the transmission and demultiplexed again following the transmission and the data of the individual data channel 1 are distributed among at least 2 wavelength channels 14. Additionally, redundant information can be added to the data of the individual data channels.
