Web pages and other text documents displayed on a computer are reformatted to allow a user who has difficulty reading to navigate between and among such documents and to have such documents, or portions of them, read aloud by the computer using a text-to-speech engine (205) in their original or translated form while preserving the original layout of the document. A "point-and-read" paradigm allows a user to cause the text to be read solely by moving a pointing device (601) over graphical icons (409) or text (603) without requiring the user to click on anything in the document. Hyperlink navigation and other program functions are accomplished in a similar manner.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de reformater des pages Web et d'autres documents textuels affichés sur un ordinateur pour permettre à un utilisateur ayant des difficultés à lire de parcourir ces document et de se faire lire ces documents, ou des parties de ces documents, dans leur forme originale ou traduite, à voix haute par l'ordinateur, grâce à un moteur de synthèse texte-parole (205), et de conserver la présentation originale du document. Un paradigme <= pointe-et-lit >= permet à l'utilisateur de se faire lire le texte à lire. Pour ce faire, l'utilisateur déplace simplement un dispositif de pointage (601) sur des icônes graphiques (409) ou du texte (603), sans cliquer sur un élément du document. La navigation par hyperlien et d'autres fonctions du programme sont mises en oeuvre de façon similaire.
