A method for determining light scattering efficiency and a method to determine undertone of pigments or mixtures containing white pigments are described. The methods are based on measuring total transmittance of pigment slurries at a wavelength of at least 600 nm. Transmittance measurements can be used to calculate light scattering efficiencies and undertone which correlate with performance in end-use applications.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de détermination du pouvoir de diffusion de la lumière par les pigments ainsi que le ton dominant de pigments ou de mélanges contenant des pigments blancs. Ces procédés consistent à mesurer la transmittance de pigments en solution à une longueur d'onde d'au moins 600 nm. Les valeurs relevées peuvent être exploitées pour déterminer le pouvoir de diffusion de la lumière qui renseignent sur les caractéristiques et qualités au niveau de l'application finale.
