A method for assaying a soybean plant leaf for disease resistance, immunity, or susceptibility comprising the steps of: a. obtaining a part of said soybean plant leaf; b.cultivating the part in a media consisting essentially of water, wherein the media is capable of maintaining the part for an assay for up to 2 months; c. exposing the part to a fungal or bacterial plant leaf pathogen; and d. assessing the part for resistance, immunity, or susceptibility to disease caused by the fungal or bacterial plant leaf pathogen.
