An orthogonal electromagnetic seal for an oven that heats items through the use of microwave energy is set forth. The oven has a cavity in which the items are to be placed, an opening to the cavity, and peripheral surfaces that surround the opening to the cavity. One of the peripheral surfaces is orthogonal to the other peripheral surfaces. The electromagnetic seal includes a choke panel, a plurality of tabs, and a choke ring. The choke panels is aligned with and has generally the same shape as the opening. The plurality of tabs extend from a periphery of the choke panel. A first set of the plurality of tabs is generally parallel to the orthogonal peripheral surface. The remaining tabs are parallel with the other peripheral surfaces. Each of the plurality of tabs is positioned between the associated peripheral surface and the coke ring. A choke cavity adjacent to each peripheral surface is defined by the choke ring, the choke panel, and the adjacent peripheral surface. The coke cavity reflects energy propagating in a direction parallel to the adjacent one of the peripheral surface and suppressing energy propagating in a direction transverse to the adjacent one of the peripheral surfaces.
L'invention concerne un joint hermétique électromagnétique orthogonal pour un four permettant de chauffer des articles à l'aide d'énergie micro-ondes. Le four comprend une cavité dans laquelle sont placés les articles à chauffer, cette cavité présentant une ouverture entourée de surfaces périphériques. Une de ces surfaces périphériques est orthogonale par rapport aux autres surfaces périphériques. Le joint hermétique électromagnétique comprend un panneau d'arrêt, plusieurs languettes et un anneau d'arrêt. Le panneau d'arrêt est aligné avec l'ouverture et a quasiment la même forme que cette dernière. Les languettes se trouvent dans le prolongement de la périphérie du panneau d'arrêt. Une première série de languettes est quasiment parallèle à la surface périphérique orthogonale. Les autres languettes sont parallèles aux autres surfaces périphériques. Chacune de ces languettes est placée entre la surface périphérique à laquelle elle est associée et l'anneau d'arrêt. Une cavité d'arrêt adjacente à chaque surface périphérique est délimitée par l'anneau d'arrêt, le panneau d'arrêt et la surface périphérique adjacente. La cavité d'arrêt réfléchit l'énergie propagée dans une direction parallèle à la surface périphériques adjacente et bloque l'énergie se propageant dans une direction transversale à cette surface périphérique adjacente.
