A monitoring and measuring device which not only can work as a normal video camera, but also can detect and respond to the moving objects respects to their motions and positions. Also, with the assistance of an external targeting tool, this device can measure the position of an identical object and position related information of multi- targets. This device consists of two independent and pre-calibrated optical sensing modules with two- dimensional optical-electronic image sensing components. The digital image processor derives the two digital images from which the two sensing modules' outputs and get the motion and position information of moving objects within the sensing range of the device. Based on the pre-setting to the processor, the motion and position information can trigger the device record the image into a flash memory and generates a trigger signal to the external device(s) for further purposes. This device can either work independently with build-in real time embedded system or connects to an external processing device for extending its functions and flexibilities with customer developable interface. This device can be widely used in security, safety and automatic control systems.
