A nasal mask cushion is provided to sealingly connect at mask to a wearer's face during the administration of positive airway pressure. the cushion has a substantially triangular frame of resilient material, with a nasal bridge region, a lop lip region and cheek regions connecting the nasal bridge and top lip regions, said fame defining a noso- receiving cavity and having a rim to substantially surround the wearer's nose. A membrane is fixed. to and extending away from the frame so as to have an outer surface spaced from the rim, in at least the nasal bridge region of the frame, defining a gap between the membrane and the frame when the cushion is not in use, said membrane overlying the rim. A seal forming portion of said outer surface of the membrane forms a face contacting seal, and has a convex sealing surface for presentation to the wearer's face, where the membrane is of resilient material pre-shaped to substantially match the contours of the wearer's face.
