Surveillance of acute rejection is a major challenge in cardiac and other organ transplants. Current diagnostic techniques are invasive and costly. A new diagnostic method is proposed to overcome these problems, based on the correlation found between major histocompatibility complex (MHC) expression on T-lymphocytes and the rejection status in allotransplanted hearts.
