A face bow and protraction headgear to correct the anterior open bite in dentally Class III open bite cases. The appliance consists of a face bow and forehead pad. The face bow has intraoral and extraoral components custom made individually for each patient. The intraoral bow is inserted from the distal openings of tubes soldered to the extraoral face bow. The extraoral face bow extends backward to the front of the ear then turns upward and ends at the level of the hooks on the forehead pad. Only the forehead is used as anchorage unit. On both sides of the pad, adjustable wire hooks are placed which allow maintaining the distance from the forehead pad hooks to the face bow hooks. Heavy elastics are attached in between the hooks of the face bow and the hooks on the forehead pad.
Ce nouvel arc facial et ce dispositif cranio-cervical sont conçus pour corriger une béance antérieure du type classe III. Les patients sont sélectionnés et un dispositif d'expansion maxillaire rapide du type attelle d'ancrage à coiffe acrylique pleine couverture est cimenté et activé deux fois par jour pendant cinq jours. Après séparation de suture, ce nouvel arc facial et ce dispositif cranio-cervical sont rodés et une force de 750 grammes est appliquée. Ce nouveau dispositif est constitué d'un arc facial et d'un coussinet frontal. L'arc facial est pourvu de composants, intraoral et extraoral, est et personnalisé pour chaque patient. L'arc intraoral est introduit depuis les ouvertures distales des tubes ayant été soudés sur l'arc extroral. L'arc facial extraoral s'étend vers l'arrière jusqu'à l'avant de patte alors tournée vers le haut et se termine au niveau des crochets se trouvant sur le coussinet frontal. Ce dispositif extroral n'utilise que le coussinet frontal comme élément d'ancrage. Des deux côtés du coussinet sont placés des fils d'ancrage réglables permettant de maintenir à distance les crochets du coussinet des crochets de l'arc facial. Des éléments élastiques durs viennent se rattacher entre les crochets de l'arc facial et les crochets du coussinet.
