A non-contact sheet handling system (100) includes a first valve (110) controlling air flow to a manifold (104) and a second valve (112) controlling air flow from the manifold to an air pan (106). A non-contact plate (107) having venturis (202) covers the air pan. In an alternate embodiment, the system includes a diffuser (302a) that diffuses air flow in the air pan. A method of using a non-contact sheet handling system includes adjusting a first and second valve (112, 114) to set air flow to a first and second area, respectively, of the system and adjusting a third valve (110) to set air flow to the first and second valves.
