New combination of a .beta.-receptor blocker or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and an opioid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, optionnally in the presence of a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or any additional agents which may be active or inactive. The new combination confers a synergistic effect, and provides unexpected efficacy in the treatment of pain.
