The present invention concerns a novel population of lymphocytes that express intracellularly, an antigen recognized by MO2 MAbs and do not express this antigen on their surface. Such cells are termed "MO2+ cells". The level of MO2+ cells was shown to be higher in blood samples of individuals suffering from various infections such as an HIV infection as compared to the level of the same cells in healthy individuals and thus, these cells are useful in detecting individuals having a high probability of having such an infection. In addition, the level of MO2+ cells in the blood of an individual is useful in determining the efficacy of various anti-infectious treatments.

Cette invention a trait à une nouvelle population de lymphocytes exprimant à l'extérieur de la cellule un antigène reconnu par des MAb MO2 mais n'exprimant pas cet antigène sur leur surface. Ces cellules sont dénommées <=cellules MO2?+¿>=. Le taux de cellules MO2?+¿ est plus élevé dans des prélèvements sanguins de sujets atteints de diverses infections, notamment d'infection par le VIH, par rapport au taux présenté par des sujets sains. Ces cellules s'avèrent donc des plus utiles s'agissant de diagnostiquer une probabilité élevée de l'existence de cette infection. La connaissance du taux de cellules MO2?+¿ dans le sang d'un sujet est également utile pour déterminer l'efficacité de différents traitements anti-infectieux.
