This invention relates to a packet scheduler and method therefor and in particular a scheduler for a Code Division Multiple Access cellular mobile communication system. In packet base systems it is important to schedule transmissions of packets carefully in order to maximise the capacity of the system. The scheduler has means (233) for selecting a candidate set of packets. The candidate set is fed to means (235) for calculating transmit powers required by remote terminals to transmit the packets based on the candidate set. The calculated transmit powers are fed to means (237) for modifying the candidate set in response to the calculated transmit powers and the modified set is fed to means (239) for scheduling the packets of the candidate set for transmission. The scheduler is in particular appropriate for third generation mobile communication systems.

L'invention concerne un ordonnanceur de paquets et un procédé associé, et en particulier un ordonnanceur destiné à un système de télécommunication mobile cellulaire AMCR (à accès multiple par code de répartition). Dans les systèmes de transmission par paquets, il importe d'ordonnancer soigneusement la transmission des paquets afin de maximiser la capacité du système. L'ordonnanceur comprend des moyens (233) qui sélectionnent un ensemble de paquets candidat. Cet ensemble candidat est envoyé à des moyens (235) qui calculent en fonction de cet ensemble candidat les puissances de transmission requises par des terminaux éloignés pour la transmission des paquets. Les puissances de transmission calculées sont envoyées à des moyens (237) qui modifient l'ensemble candidat en réponse aux puissances de transmission calculées, puis l'ensemble modifié est envoyé à des moyens (239) qui ordonnancent les paquets de l'ensemble candidat pour la transmission. L'ordonnanceur convient en particulier pour les systèmes de télécommunication mobiles de la troisième génération.
