A method of controlling the performance of a radio link between a base transceiver station and a radio terminal for a wireless transmission system is provided. A radio network controller (RNC) monitors a directly observable L-2 parameter, and determines a without explicit L2-L1 signaling a threshold violation by the L-1 parameter for accordingly triggering a status change of the radio link. Namely, a L-2 radio resource management algorithm prompts the radio terminal and the RNC to perform a radio resource management action whenever the L-1 parameter violates a L-1 threshold. Such an action could be directly downgrading or upgrading the transmission rate on the radio link, or a radio link reconfiguration. The L-1 parameter may be the radio block error rate r, and the L-2 parameter may be the PDU retransmission rate R.
La présente invention concerne une méthode de contrôle du rendement d'une liaison radio entre une station émettrice-réceptrice et un terminal radio pour un système de transmission sans fil. Un contrôleur de réseau de radiocommunication (RNC) surveille un paramètre L-2 observable directement, et détermine, sans un signal explicite L2-l1, une violation de seuil par l'algorithme de gestion de la source radio L-2 pour déclencher par la suite un changement d'état de la liaison radio. Nommément, ledit algorithme de gestion de la source radio L-2 invite le terminal radio et le contrôleur RNC à exécuter une mesure de gestion de la source radio où le paramètre L-! viole un seuil L-1 correspondant. Une telle mesure pourrait consister à augmenter ou à diminuer la vitesse de transmission sur la liaison radio, ou à reconfigurer ladite liaison radio. Le paramètre L- 1 peut être le taux d'erreurs sur les blocs radio r, et le paramètre L-2 peut être la vitesse de retransmission des unités de données de protocole (PDU) R.
