The measurement and control of stirring energy that is imparted by a gas flowing through a liquid metal in a container is achieved by monitoring the degree of vibration of the container using an appropriate transducer, and amplifying and processing the vibration signal to provide an indication of the degree of stirring energy applied to the container. The processed signal is converted to a signal for an operator interface, PLC, or other suitable controller to open or close a flow valve to cause stirring gas to be delivered to the container to provide the desired stirring energy for the liquid within.
