Human growth hormone (hGH) is produced by enzymatic cleavage of a biosynthetically formed amino terminal extended hGH of the formula: X - hGH wherein X is an amino acid sequence with an even number of amino acids, the first one of which, as seen from the N-terminus, is different from Lys and Arg, all other uneven amino acids are different from Pro, Lys and Arg, and all even amino acids are different from Pro, by means of the enzyme dipeptidyl aminopeptidase I (DAP I).
