A two-step process for the preparation and industrial manufacture of calixarenes is disclosed. In the first step, linear phenolic oligomers are prepared in a basic medium from an optionally substituted phenol and a formaldehyde source. The reaction mixture is then neutralized or acidified, and cyclization of the oligomers is brought about at higher temperatures in the same reaction medium which is made water free and optionally completed by higher boiling liquids. Furthermore, novel calixarene compounds are disclosed and claimed as well as an installation for carrying out the process on a laboratory or industrial scale.
La présente invention concerne un procédé en deux temps pour la préparation et la production industrielle de calixarènes. La première opération consiste à préparer des oligomères phénoliques linéaires dans un milieu basique provenant d'une source phénol éventuellement substitué et d'une source formaldéhyde. La seconde opération consiste ensuite à neutraliser ou acidifier le milieu de réactionpuis et à favoriser la constitution en cycle des oligomères à des températures plus élevées dans le même milieu de réaction qui est déshydraté et éventuellement complété par des liquides en ébullition à des températures plus élevées. L'invention concerne également des composés calixarènes ainsi qu'une installation permettant la mise en oeuvre du procédé à l'échelle du laboratoire ou à l'échelle industrielle.
