A process for the preparation of co-polymers which comprises reacting carbon monoxide and one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds under polymerization conditions in the presence of an added catalyst system based on (a) at least one metal selected from the Groups VI, VII and/or VIII of the Periodic Table; and (b) a stabilizing organic compound attached by a covalent bond via a carbon atom to (one of) the said metal(s) and containing at least one group capable of forming an additional, non-covalent, bond with (one of) the said metal(s). Procédé de préparation de copolymères consistant à faire réagir du monoxyde de carbone avec un ou plusieurs composés non saturés d'éthylène dans des conditions de polymérisation, en présence d'un système catalytique ajouté, basé sur (a) au moins un métal choisi dans les groupes VI, VII et/ou VIII du tableau périodique; et (b) un composé organique stabilisateur fixé par une liaison covalente par l'intermédiaire d'un atome de carbone à un desdits métaux ou auxdits métaux, et contenant au moins un groupe capable de former une liaison supplémentaire non covalente avec un desdits métaux ou lesdits métaux.
