A push button release apparatus is disclosed for releasing a door of a vehicle. The apparatus includes a housing that is secured to the door of the vehicle, the housing having a first and a second end and a first and a second extremity. The housing defines a cavity that extends between the first and the second end of the housing, the cavity extending between the first and the second extremities of the housing. A push button is supported by the housing, the push button being slidably disposed relative to the housing such that the push button moves between an inoperative location disposed adjacent to the first extremity of the housing and as operative location disposed adjacent to the second extremity of the housing. A cam has a first and a second termination, the cam being pivotally supported about a pivotal axis that is disposed between the first and the second termination of the cam. The pivotal axis extends through the housing, the first termination defining a cam surface that cooperates with the push button. A biasing device is connected to the cam for pivoting the cam. The arrangement is such that the cam surface urges the push button in a direction from the operative location towards the inoperative location thereof so that when the push button is moved from the inoperative location towards the operative location in opposition to the biasing device, the second termination of the cam moves for releasing the door of the vehicle.
