Helicobacter pylori can infect gastric mucosa and is implicated in diseases such as gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer. Once a diagnosis is made, the disease can usually be cured by using antibiotic regimens to eradicate the infection. This invention embodies a novel in situ diagnostic method which detect diseases in the alimentary tract in a fast and convenient way using a detection capsule restrained by a control string. In particular, the method embodied by this invention can be used to test for Helicobacter infection of the gastric mucosa which is implicated in gastritis, as well as gastric and duodenal ulcer.
