A rack for drying pasta normally has drying dowels affixed to a post or framework. In this invention, the dowels are not attached to the rack and are mounted only when drying pasta. This invention relates to the easy handling and drying of home-made pasta. It is common for pasta drying racks to have the drying dowels affixed to the rack. It is therefore necessary to transfer pasta from the pasta forming machine to these dowels and later to the cooking pot. Storage of these racks is difficult as they must be folded, if possible, and the dowels are left exposed to contamination and damage. I have found that these disadvantages can be overcome by having the drying dowels not affixed to the rack. This allows the pasta to be picked up on a dowel as it emerges from the pasta machine and transferred to the drying rack. When ready to cook, the pasta is carried on the dowels to the cooking pot. The drying rack has a built in storage compartment for the drying dowels and is compact for easy storage. It can be hung on a wall while not in use or even when drying pasta to save counter space.
