A rail loading wagon (1) for loading and unloading long rails (17) consists of a wagon frame (4) supported on a track (2) by on-track undercarriages (3). Guide rollers (20) spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction of the wagon are provided for guiding the long rails (17) between a track plane (19) and a loading plane (18), positioned above the wagon frame (4), for storing the long rails (17). Crane rails (9), spaced apart from one another in the transverse direction of the wagon and extending in the longitudinal direction of the wagon, are fastened to the wagon frame (4). The wagon frame (4) has at least one recess (16) for the passage of the rails (17), the recess being located between the on-track undercarriages (3) and being furnished with the guide rollers (20).
