A reciprocating machine includes a cyclical kinematic chain in which power is transferred between translational and rotational motion. The kinematic chain includes a piston (2) reciprocating in a cylinder (1), connected by two connecting rods (9, 10) to dual counter rotating crankshafts (7, 8). The crankshafts (7, 8) are displaced symmetrically from the axis of movement of the piston (2), and the crank pins (15, 16) of the crankshafts (7, 8) to which the connecting rods (9, 10) are connected are symmetrically aligned about the axis of movement of the piston (2). The connecting rod small ends (13, 14) abut at their connection to the piston (2). The distance between the axis of the dual crankshafts, the length of the connecting rods, the positioning of the connecting rods connections to the piston, and the diameter of rotation of the crank pins about the crankshaft axes are such that in motion the ratio of the length of each stroke of the piston to the diameter of rotation of the crank pins about the crankshaft axes is at least 1.1 to 1.

La machine à mouvement alternatif de la présente invention comporte une chaîne cinématique cyclique qui transfère l'énergie entre le mouvement de translation et de rotation. La chaîne cinématique comporte un piston (2) se déplaçant en va-et-vient dans un cylindre (1), raccordé par deux bielles (9, 10) à deux vilebrequins (7, 8) contrarotatifs. Ces vilebrequins (7, 8) se déplacent de manière symétrique par rapport à l'axe de déplacement du piston (2), et les manetons (15, 16) des vilebrequins (7, 8) auxquels sont reliées les bielles (9, 10) sont symétriquement alignés autour de l'axe de déplacement du piston (2). Les petites extrémités (13, 14) des bielles viennent buter contre le piston (2) au niveau de leur point de raccordement. La distance entre l'axe des deux vilebrequins, la longueur des bielles, le positionnement des points de liaison des bielles au piston, et le diamètre de rotation des manetons autour de l'axe du vilebrequin sont calculés pour que, pendant le mouvement, le rapport entre la longueur de chaque course de piston et le diamètre de rotation des manetons autour des axes de vilebrequins soit d'au moins 1,1 à 1.
