The present invention relates to the role of plant phenylcoumaran benzylic ether reductase (PCBER) (1) in lignification and growth of plants. More particular, the invention relates to plants in which PCBER has been down~regulated, resulting in a lower lignin content, higher soluble phenolics, a higher resistance to plant pathogens and a higher biomass production of the plant. These characteristics are maintained under elevated CO2 concentrations.
L'invention concerne le rôle joué par phénylcoumarane éther benzylique reductase (PCBER) (1) dans la lignification et la croissance de plantes. Elle concerne, plus particulièrement, des plantes dans lesquelles PCBER a été régulée en négatif, ce qui permet d'obtenir une teneur en lignine plus basse, des composés phénoliques solubles supérieurs, une résistance accrue aux pathogènes et une production de biomasse supérieure. Ces caractéristiques sont maintenues dans des concentrations élevées de CO¿2?.
