The present invention relates to an environmental, health and fire safety system to be used in concert with small scale and portable technologies for the production of transesterified fatty acid alkyl esters for use as biodiesel or other applications. Methanol or other alcohol vapors generated through the transesterification of fatty acids are explosive and limit the application of small scale biodiesel technologies, as they offer significant health, explosion or fire risks. Liquid solvent or fuel spills can cause significant environmental liabilities. The invention allows for the users of all biodiesel fabrication technologies to eliminate solvent emanation and contain liquid spills. A primary enclosure (1), which may be retractable and portable by way of a trailer or skids, is mounted over the transesterification or biodiesel fabrication device (2) prevents possible toxic fumes from dispersing into the surrounding environment. A ventilation system (4) actively forces the possible toxic vapours through a venting system to a location outside the enclosure through a vent (6). Electrical panel controls (3), if applicable, are mounted preferably outside of the enclosure to meet with electrical and safety regulations. Moreover, an air flow control mechanism is attached to the system to stop power to the transesterification devices if the enclosure and ventilation system are not in place and activated. A sump reservoir is added to the system for the purpose of collecting, through gravity, liquid spills that make arise from the malfunctioning of the biodiesel manufacturing. External reservoirs which hold feedstocks and by products are connected to the biodiesel fabrication devise for through hoses or pipes which penetrate the enclosure through wall breaches (8).
