A screen for use in a shale shaker, said screen comprising a first screen assembly (14) having a first mesh size and a second screen assembly (16) having a second mesh size mounted on and above the first screen assembly (14) characterised in that said second screen assembly (16) comprises a scalping screen of a larger mesh size than the mesh size of a screen of the first screen assembly (14). A shale shaker comprising a screen according to the present invention. A method of screening using a shale shaker according to the present invention comprising the steps of vibrating said screen in a shale shaker and pouring a mixture of liquid and particles on to said screen.
