In a search engine with two-dimensional scalable architecture for searching of a collection of documents D, the search engine comprises data processing units which form sets of nodes (N) connected in a network, a first set of nodes comprising dispatch nodes (N .alpha.), a second set of nodes search nodes (N .beta.) and a third set of nodes indexing nodes (N .gamma.). The search nodes (N .beta.) are grouped in columns which via the network are connected in parallel between the dispatch nodes (N .alpha.) and an indexing node (N .gamma.). The dispatch nodes (N .alpha.) are adapted for processing search queries and search answers, the search nodes (N .beta.) are adapted to contain search software, and the indexing nodes (N .gamma.) are adapted for generally generating indexes I for the search software. Optionally, acquisition nodes (N .delta.) provided in a fourth set of nodes and adapted for processing the search answers, thus relieving the dispatch nodes of this task. The two-dimensional scaling takes place respectively through a scaling of the data volume and a scaling of the search engine performance through a respective adaptation of the architecture.
Ce moteur de recherche, doté d'une architecture bidimensionnelle, échelonnable, destinée à la recherche d'un ensemble de documents (D), comprend des unités de traitement de données formant des groupes de noeuds (N) connectés dans un réseau, un premier groupe de noeuds comprenant des noeuds d'acheminement (N alpha ), un second groupe de noeuds de recherche (N beta ) et un troisième groupe de noeuds d'indexation (N gamma ). Les noeuds de recherche (N beta ) sont groupés en colonnes, lesquelles, par l'intermédiaire du réseau, sont connectées en parallèle entre les noeuds d'acheminement (N alpha ) et un noeud d'indexation (N gamma ). Les noeuds d'acheminement (N alpha ) sont conçus pour traiter des demandes et des réponses de recherche, les noeuds de recherche (N beta ) sont conçus pour contenir le logiciel de recherche, quelques noeuds de recherche au moins comprennent en outre au moins un module (M) de traitement de recherche, les noeuds d'indexation (N gamma ) étant conçus pour produire généralement des index <i>I</i> destinés au logiciel de recherche. Eventuellement des noeuds d'acquisition (N delta ) forment un quatrième groupe de noeuds, conçu pour traiter les réponses de recherche, soulageant ainsi les noeuds d'acheminement de cette tâche. L'étalonnage bidimensionnel s'effectue respectivement par l'intermédiaire de l'étalonnage du volume des données, et l'étalonnage des performances du moteur de recherche, par adaptation correspondante de l'architecture.
