A sheet break detector apparatus (10) is disclosed for detecting a sheet break in a dryer section (12) of a paper machine. The apparatus (10) includes a vacuum transducer (14) which is sensitive to the vacuum level within a vacuum roll (16) of a dryer section (12). The transducer (14) detects only a sudden change in vacuum level within the vacuum roll (16) resulting from a sheet break rather than a relatively gradual change in vacuum level resulting from an operator augmented vacuum level change. A guide device is connected to the transducer (14) and responsive to the transducer (14) for redirecting the sheet to a broke chute (22) upstream relative to the transducer (14) when the transducer (14) detects the sudden change in vacuum level. The arrangement is such that excessive wind-up of the broken sheet (W) around a dryer (24) of the dryer section (12) is inhibited.
Appareil (10) décelant les déchirures dans des trames de papier dans une section de séchage (12) d'une machine à papier. L'appareil (10) comporte un transducteur d'aspiration (14) qui est sensible au niveau d'aspiration à l'intérieur d'un rouleau d'aspiration (16) d'une section de séchage (12). Le transducteur (14) détecte seulement un changement soudain du niveau d'aspiration à l'intérieur du rouleau d'aspiration (16), changement qui est le résultat d'une déchirure plutôt que d'une modification relativement graduelle du niveau d'aspiration causée par un opérateur qui règle ce dernier. Un dispositif guide est relié au transducteur (14) et réagit à ce dernier (14) pour réorienter la trame vers une goulotte du cassé (22) placée en amont relativement au transducteur (14) lorsque ce dernier (14) détecte un changement soudain dans le niveau d'aspiration. La configuration empêche la trame déchirée (W) de s'enrouler de façon excessive autour d'un rouleau (24) de la section de séchage (12).
