A data Interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost- effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range "serial" type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.
L'invention concerne une interface de données permettant le transfert de données numériques entre un hôte et un client sur une voie de communication, au moyen de structures de paquets reliées ensemble de sorte à former un protocole de communication destiné à communiquer un ensemble prédéterminé de données de commande et de présentation numériques. Le protocole de signal est utilisé par des contrôleurs de liaisons configurés pour générer, transmettre et recevoir des paquets formant le protocole de communication, et pour former des données numériques en au moins un type de paquets de données, au moins un paquet résidant dans le dispositif hôte et étant couplé au client par ladite voie de communication. L'interface selon l'invention fournit ainsi un mécanisme de transfert de données haute vitesse, bidirectionnel, faible puissance et rentable sur une liaison de données de type <= sériel >= à faible portée. La présente invention peut donc être appliquée avec des connecteurs miniatures et des câbles fins flexibles, particulièrement utiles dans le raccordement d'éléments d'affichage, tels que des micro-écrans portables pour ordinateurs portables et dispositifs de communication sans fil.
