A single tier drying section apparatus (10) is disclosed for drying a web of paper (W). The drying section (10) includes a first and a second dryer (12 14) which are disposed in a single tier (16) for drying the web (W). A vacuum roll (18) is disposed closely adjacent to and between the first and second dryers (12 14) for guiding the web (W) from the first to the second dryer (12 14). The vacuum roll (18) includes a rotatable roll shell (22) having a first and a second end (24 26). The shell (22) defines an outer surface (28) and an internal chamber (30) which extends between the first and the second end (24. 26) of the shell (22). The shell (22) defines plurality of channels (32. 33. 34) with each channel extending from the chamber (30) to the outer surface (28) such that the chamber (30) is disposed in fluid communication with the outer surface (28). A vane mechanism (36) is disposed within the chamber (30) for evacuating the chamber (30). The arrangement is such that a flow of air (38) flows towards the chamber (30) through the plurality of channels (32, 33 34) for drawing the web (W) into close conformity with the dryer felt (20) when the web (W) extends around the vacuum roll (18).
L'invention concerne un appareil (10) à section de séchage à un seul étage pour sécher une bande de papier (W). La section de séchage (10) comprend un premier et un deuxième sécheur (12, 14) qui sont placés en un seul étage (16) pour sécher la bande (W). Un rouleau à vide (18) est placé de manière adjacente aux premier et deuxième sécheurs (12, 14) et entre ceux-ci pour guider la bande (W) depuis le premier sécheur vers le deuxième sécheur (12, 14). Le rouleau à vide (18) comprend une carcasse (22) de rouleau rotative présentant une première et une deuxième extrémité (24, 26). La configuration est telle qu'un flux d'air (38) s'écoule en direction de la chambre (30) à travers une pluralité de canaux (32, 33, 34) pour tirer la bande (W) de manière à l'adapter au feutre (20) du séchoir lorsque la bande (W) s'étend autour du rouleau à vide (18).
