A sofa convertible into a bed, comprising: - a support and guide structure (12), - a mattress (14) movable relative to the support and guide structure (12) between a bed configuration in which the mattress (14) has a bearing surface (16) which extends horizontally and a sofa configuration in which an upper portion (14a) of the mattress (14) is folded upwards relative to a lower portion (14b). In the sofa configuration the bearing surface (16a) of the upper portion (14a) of the mattress (14) forms the bearing surface of the backrest against which the back of the occupant bears directly in the seated position.
