The invention relates to a suitcase or similar receptacle with at least one handle for its transport. It is characteristic of the suitcase or the like embodying the invention that the handle is adapted to be pivoted, lowered and/or slid from a transport position into a safety position in which handle cannot be clasped from without, and is adapted to be safeguarded in said non-claspable safety position, or that the handle is held on the suitcase or similar receptacle in a manually detachable condition and is manually mountable. Thus the handle or handles of the suitcase embodying the invention can be moved or removed in such a way as not to be readily available, particularly to unauthorized persons, for further transport. Anybody transporting a suitcase or similar receptacle in such an unusual and inconvenient way is easily detectable. Hence this serves to deter thieves from stealing the suitcase or the like according to the invention.
