A rotating field, synchronized electric generator or motor in which the magnetic field (20) that the armature (30) produces can rotate relative to the stator (21) at a speed significantly different from that of the arma-ture (30), under electronic or other control that obviates the need for a mechanical torque-carrying gearbox that can be used for a similar purpose in a synchronized generator or motor.
