Full color resolution of an image is realized by reconstructing an array of image data points from an image signal representing the image into a shifted array of pseudo pixels. The particular grid type of the array will dictate whether color recovery uses only vertical resolution, only horizontal resolution, vertical resolution followed by horizontal resolution, or horizontal resolution followed by vertical resolution. For each color channel, interpolation of missing color components is accomplished by first taking a DCT of the image data points, then taking a modified IDCT of the DCT coefficients.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de définition en couleur complète de l'image qui repose sur la reconstruction d'un alignement de points d'information vidéo depuis un signal vidéo représentant l'image en une matrice décalée de pseudo-pixels. Le type de grille particulier de l'alignement détermine le type de récupération de la couleur: résolution verticale uniquement, résolution horizontale uniquement, résolution verticale suivie d'une résolution horizontale ou bien résolution horizontale suivie d'une résolution verticale. Pour chaque canal de chrominance, l'interpolation des composantes de couleur manquantes est obtenue par transformées en cosinus discrets des points d'information vidéo, opération qui est suivie d'une transformation en cosinus discrets inverse modifée des coefficients de ladite transformée.
