The present invention pertains to a system for climbing from a first area below a ceiling to a second area above the ceiling. The system comprises a 12-foot ladder. The system also comprises a mechanism for holding the ladder to the ceiling. The present invention pertains to a method for using a ceiling ladder. The method comprises the steps of pulling a ladder having a first section connected to the ceiling and a second section connected to the first section and folded on the first section down from a ceiling. Then, there is the step of moving against a restoring force the second section relative to the first section of the ladder until the second section is in series with the first section and the ladder has a length of about 12 feet. The present invention pertains to a method for using a ceiling ladder. The method comprises the steps of moving a second section of a ladder connected to a ceiling from a closed state, where the second section is essentially parallel and adjacent a first section of the ladder connected to the ceiling, to an equilibrium state, where the second section is essentially parallel with the ceiling, under a restoring force which will pull the second section of the ladder back to the closed state if the second section stops being moved to the equilibrium state. Then, there is the step of moving the second section past the equilibrium state to an open state where the second section is in series with the first section and under a straightening force which will push the second section of the ladder into the open state if the second section stops being moved.
Cette invention a trait à un système conçu pour que quelqu'un puisse monter d'un premier secteur situé sous un plafond à un deuxième secteur situé au-dessus. Le système comporte notamment une échelle de 12 pieds, ainsi qu'un mécanisme pour l'accrocher au plafond. Cette invention concerne également une méthode d'utilisation d'une échelle de plafond. Les étapes de cette méthode consistent d'abord à tirer une échelle constituée d'une première section fixée au plafond et d'une deuxième section rattachée à la première et repliée sur la première section sous le plafond. L'étape suivante consiste à déplacer la deuxième section par rapport à la première tout en s'opposant à une force de rappel jusqu'à ce que la deuxième section soit alignée avec la première et que l'échelle atteigne la longueur d'environ 12 pieds. Cette invention porte encore sur une autre méthode d'utilisation d'une échelle de plafond comprenant les étapes suivantes : déplacer la deuxième section d'une échelle assujettie à un plafond, à partir d'une position fermée où la deuxième section, pour l'essentiel, est parallèle et adjacente à une première section de l'échelle reliée au plafond, jusqu'à un état d'équilibre où la deuxième section est essentiellement parallèle au plafond, en s'opposant à une force de rappel qui, en tirant la deuxième section de l'échelle dans le sens contraire, tend à lui faire regagner sa position fermée si la deuxième section abandonne son mouvement de déplacement vers l'état d'équilibre; l'étape suivante consiste à dépasser avec la deuxième section l'état d'équilibre pour la mettre en position ouverte, la deuxième section se trouvant alors alignée avec la première, sous une force de redressement qui pousse la deuxième section de l'échelle vers cette position ouverte si l'on cesse de déplacer la deuxième section.
